SPFBO Shorts – Author Interview with Kristen S. Walker

All this month, you can get 25 short stories and novellas from Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (SPFBO) authors absolutely free through the SPFBO Shorts promotion.

As part of the promo, I virtually sat down with a host of the participating authors.

Today’s author interview is with Kristen S. Walker.

Tell us a little about your SPFBO Short.

Both of my shorts are prequels to the novels that were entered in SPFBO. The first one, The Duke’s Daughter, is set before A Flight of Marewings (SPFBO 2016). It explains a little more of the background for the main character, Korinna, and her experiences with magic which taught her to be more independent.

For Amena’s Rise to Stardom!, the title is actually the same as a biography that Riwenne reads in Riwenne & the Mechanical Beasts (SPFBO 2019), about her favorite pop idol, Amena. But my story is the truth of what happened that Riwenne (and everyone else) doesn’t know about. Her path to fame wasn’t as easy as the official biography claims and she has some dark secrets in her past!

What has been your favorite part of SPFBO?

I love the community of authors and readers that has grown around SPFBO. Some other competitions are run so that each author is focused on getting enough votes for themselves in a popularity contest. SPFBO is actually a fun event where everyone chats about the books, supports each other, and shares their love of reading. I always find some great reads along the way, but it’s the friendships that last long after the finalist has been announced.

What are you currently working on?

The fourth book in the Divine Warriors series, Riwenne & the Electrical Prophecy. Now the steampunk magical girls are facing a circus full of mad scientists!
